Milestones or goals are great ways to get more followers. Usually people want to help out of you are trying to reach your goal of 1,000 or 10,000 whatever the case may be. Go ahead and tweet about it. "ex: I'm at 1,479 followers, please RT so I can get to 1,500 by tonight!"

Tip #6: Follow People Who Follow Back
To get more Twitter followers and get your name out there, follow as many people as you can. People will randomly shout you out for following them and others will follow you because their friends do. So go ahead, follow as many people as your can, especially the ones who follow back. (You can search for #teamfollowback, and similar hashtags as a start)

Everyone likes to shop online, or at least look. With the internet being an abundant source for information, offer deals that people will like to take advantage of. ex: Pizza hut has buy 1 get 1 free pizza today!

One thing about social networks like Twitter is that people will do stuff (like follow) if its for a good cause. If you are a business or someone with a lot of money and can give away promotional items or money, go ahead and make a little contest or something like this: For every new twitter follower who retweets this, I will donate $1 to the American Red Cross.
Tip #13: Get Suggested on Twitter
To get an insane amount of Twitter followers, get on the suggested twitter list. You know when you first sign up for twitter and it asks you to follow 10 people when you first join, if you can get on that list... imagine how many followers you can get per day!!

Getting verified will get your more twitter followers. If you are a well known person, like a celebrity or well known person in your niche, people will search for you or recognize you from your profile picture.

Tip #11: List the City That You Live In
One way to get more twitter followers, or to give your tweets some clout is to let people know what city you are residing in. That way, if you tweet about businesses, events or people in your area, they know where you are. ex: I had the best burger on 9th and Martin Luther King Dr. There are probably 100 9th and Martin Luther King Drives in the world... how are they supposed to know what burger place or where you are talking about if they don't know you personally (which is usually the case) ?
Tip #10: Put Your Expertise or Interest in Your Bio
Give people a reason to follow you by listing your interest or area of expertise in your bio. If you have a job or education which most people don't know about, let them know you have authority in that area. ex: You go to your doctor and listen to what he or she says because they are an expert in the medical field. If you are say, a marketer, other marketing people or people who are interested in marketing will follow you.

Be selective with what you retweet, you don't want to retweet dumb stuff, or someone who doesn't have a lot of followers (or doesn't follow back). Check out how many followers and if they follow before you retweet them.
